Plastic Surgery Preview - The Virtual Nose Job

With new imaging technology, patients can get a sneak peek at what results they could expect.

Cosmetic surgery is a lengthy and expensive process and patients want to know what they're getting themselves into before they start. One of the biggest questions people ask is what will they look like after. Physicians now have a tool they can use to show patients with reasonable certainty what they can expect to see. While the projected results aren't a guarantee, the Vectra M-3 device from Canfield Scientific can show patients what a change can do for them.

Dr. Drew Ordon of The Doctors demonstrated the device on the show with a patient interested in rhinoplasty. He was able to show her what a narrowing of the bridge and tip of her nose could accomplish as well as several other key alterations. The device can also showcase a virtual facelift and eye lift, as well as other cosmetic procedures. The special camera makes a 3-D virtual model of the patient's face, and the doctor can make the changes with a click of the mouse.

Patients can view their results from several angles, so that rather than seeing their face straight on, they can see their profile as well. It is important to remember that the images projected are not a guarantee of results but can give you a good idea of what to expect so that you and your physician can pick the perfect size nose for your face.
